ABOUT THIS GUIDE

This is a detailed research guide and framework, not a finished project for submission. It gives you a ready-to-adapt Chapter One, a map for your literature review, a full survey methodology plan with a worked sample-size calculation, a draft questionnaire, empty results tables, and guidance for writing your conclusions. You collect your own data and write Chapters Four and Five from your own findings.

SECTION 1: TOPIC AND ALTERNATIVE TITLES

Main topic:
Factors Influencing the Utilisation of Antenatal Care Services among Pregnant Women in [LGA], [State]

Alternative titles:
1. Timing of First Antenatal Visit and Its Determinants among Pregnant Women in [LGA].
2. Utilisation of Skilled Birth Attendance and Facility Delivery among Women in [Community].
3. Male Partner Involvement in Antenatal Care in [LGA].
4. Women's Satisfaction with Antenatal Care Services in [Hospital].
5. Use of Traditional Birth Attendants and Its Determinants in Rural [LGA].
6. Utilisation of Postnatal Care Services among Mothers in [LGA].

SECTION 2: MODEL CHAPTER ONE

1.1 Background to the Study (model text, rewrite in your own words)

Antenatal care (ANC) is the care provided by skilled health professionals to pregnant women to ensure the best health for mother and baby. It includes risk identification, prevention and management of pregnancy-related and other diseases, health education and preparation for birth. Through ANC, women can receive tetanus vaccination, iron and folic acid supplements, intermittent preventive treatment of malaria, insecticide-treated nets, HIV testing, blood pressure monitoring and counselling on danger signs.

The World Health Organization's 2016 recommendations on antenatal care for a positive pregnancy experience recommend a minimum of eight contacts with health providers during pregnancy, with the first contact in the first trimester (up to 12 weeks). Earlier guidance had recommended at least four visits. Nigeria has one of the highest numbers of maternal deaths in the world, and its maternal mortality ratio remains high [cite the latest WHO or NDHS estimates]. Many of these deaths are preventable, and ANC is an important entry point to the care that can prevent them.

National surveys, such as the Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS), have shown large differences in ANC use between urban and rural areas, between regions, and by women's education and wealth. Barriers include cost, distance, transport, lack of autonomy in decision-making, cultural beliefs, previous poor experiences in facilities and the preference for traditional birth attendants. This study therefore examines the factors influencing the utilisation of ANC services among pregnant women in [LGA].

1.2 Statement of the Problem (model)

Many pregnant women in [LGA] book for ANC late, attend fewer than the recommended number of visits, or do not attend at all [support this with facility records, state data or NDHS figures for your state]. Some deliver at home or with traditional birth attendants. It is not clear which factors, whether personal, economic, cultural or related to health services, most strongly influence ANC use in the area. This study addresses that problem.

1.3 Objectives of the Study

The main objective is to examine the factors influencing ANC utilisation among pregnant women in [LGA]. The specific objectives are to:
1. determine the level of ANC utilisation (timing of first visit and number of visits);
2. examine the influence of socio-demographic factors (age, education, parity, income) on ANC utilisation;
3. examine the influence of economic and geographical factors (cost, distance, transport) on ANC utilisation;
4. examine the influence of cultural factors and decision-making on ANC utilisation;
5. examine the influence of health service factors (staff attitudes, waiting time, availability of services) on ANC utilisation.

WHAT THE FULL GUIDE CONTAINS

The complete guide continues with:
- research questions and null hypotheses matched to each objective;
- significance, scope, limitations and definitions of terms;
- a Chapter Two map: concepts to define, the theoretical framework, how to build the empirical review, and a model statement of the research gap;
- a full Chapter Three plan: design, population, a worked sample-size calculation, sampling technique, validity, reliability and the statistical test for each hypothesis;
- a ready-to-adapt draft questionnaire (or data collection instrument);
- Chapter Four table templates with guidance on interpreting and discussing results;
- a Chapter Five guide to the summary, conclusion and recommendations;
- a list of real starting references, plus a checklist of common supervisor corrections.

Please note: this is a research guide and framework to help you plan and write your own project. It does not contain invented data or results. You collect your own data and write Chapters Four and Five from your own findings.
