ABU Aggregate Score Calculator

ABU is reported to average your UTME score and your post-UTME score after putting both on a 400 scale: (post-UTME × 4 + UTME) ÷ 2.

How ABU calculates your aggregate score

Aggregate = UTME ÷ 8 + post-UTME ÷ 2. The weighting is UTME 50%, post-UTME 50%.

• Out of 400: (post-UTME × 4 + UTME) ÷ 2. Out of 100 this is UTME ÷ 8 + post-UTME ÷ 2.
• ABU also admits by catchment area and merit lists, so the same aggregate can be enough in one list and not in another.

ABU aggregate score worked example

A candidate with 230 in UTME and 70 in the post-UTME test (out of 100) scores:

• UTME: 230 ÷ 8 = 28.75 (out of 50)
• Post-UTME: 70 ÷ 2 = 35 (out of 50)
• Aggregate = 28.75 + 35 = 63.75 out of 100

Out of 400 this is 63.75 × 4 = 255.

What aggregate score do I need for ABU?

There is no single pass mark. After screening, ABU publishes departmental cut-off marks for each course, and they change from year to year with the number of applicants. Competitive courses such as Medicine, Law, Nursing and Pharmacy always need a much higher aggregate than the general cut-off.

Enter last year's cut-off for your course as the target in the calculator to see the post-UTME score you would need to reach it.

Before you rely on the result

Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria does not publish one fixed formula that stays the same every year. This calculator uses the method most widely reported for recent screening exercises. Compare it with the formula in ABU's current post-UTME or screening notice, and if the weights differ, change them under "Change the formula" and the result updates.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the ABU aggregate score calculated?

ABU is reported to average your UTME score and your post-UTME score after putting both on a 400 scale: (post-UTME × 4 + UTME) ÷ 2. In short: Aggregate = UTME ÷ 8 + post-UTME ÷ 2.

Does ABU add O'level grades to the aggregate?

Not in this formula. Your O'level result decides whether you qualify for the course (normally five credits including English Language and Mathematics), but it doesn't add marks to the aggregate.

How much does the ABU post-UTME score count?

The post-UTME is worth 50 of the 100 marks. Each mark you gain in the test adds 0.5 to your aggregate, against 0.13 for each UTME mark.
